A debut that reset the attack
Manav Suthar, playing his first Test, took six wickets in the first innings and was the pick of the bowlers. In the second innings Washington Sundar took four and Kuldeep Yadav three, the pair accounting for seven between them.
I felt really good, especially to play this format after a while. I just wanted to get a lot of volume coming into the game and obviously I felt like I was getting the rhythm right from the scratch, from ball one.
The scale of the win invites a caveat. One-off Tests are played in conditions chosen by the host and carry no series context, and a single match in a season is a thin basis for judging a side. The margin is a record; the innings that produced it were closer to ordinary than the result suggests.
- Debutant Manav Suthar: six wickets in the first innings.
- Second innings: Washington Sundar four, Kuldeep Yadav three.
- Centuries in India's innings: KL Rahul and Shubman Gill.
- Match duration: three days.
- Venue: Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, New Chandigarh.
- Previous best: an innings and 272 runs against West Indies, Rajkot, 2018.
